Raising serious questions over the timing and intent of the cases against him, Rajya Sabha MP Sandeep Pathak today said the FIRs reportedly filed in Punjab may be the result of “misuse of government machinery.”

The development comes days after his switch from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), triggering a sharp political confrontation.

‘Will not compromise on political dharma’

Defending his record, Pathak said his political journey has been rooted in principles and would remain unchanged despite the shift in party.

“Everyone who knows me understands that I follow principles and righteousness. Whether in AAP or now in BJP, I will continue to work the same way. Success or failure does not matter; I must not break my political dharma,” he said.

He also rejected claims that personal reasons led to his exit from AAP, stating that the decision stemmed from “long-standing differences in ideology and work style.”

‘No official information yet, awaiting copies’

Pathak said he has not received any formal or informal communication regarding the two FIRs, and that media reports remain his only source of information so far.

“Since yesterday, television channels have been reporting that two FIRs have been filed against me in Punjab. I have yet to receive any formal or informal information about these FIRs. I’ve been waiting to receive a copy so I can respond,” he said.

He added that a detailed reply would be possible only after examining the contents of the FIRs, particularly if they involve serious, non-bailable charges. I will be able to fully respond only after seeing them,” he said.

According to official sources, Punjab Police have registered two FIRs against Pathak in separate districts under sections that include non-bailable offences. Details of the allegations have not been disclosed so far.

The cases come amid a broader political shift in the Rajya Sabha, where several MPs have recently moved to the BJP.
